SHORT PROFILE
Elda Miramontes García completed her degree in Marine Sciences at the University of Vigo (Spain) in 2013 and her PhD in Marine Geosciences at Ifremer, French national oceanography center (Brest, France), in 2016 (Doctor title provided by the University of Brest). During her PhD, she investigated the relationship between submarine landslides and sedimentary deposits formed by the oceanic circulation in the northern Tyrrhenian Sea (Mediterranean Sea). During her postdoctoral fellowships at Ifremer and at the University of Brest, she continued investigating how the oceanic circulation shapes the ocean floor and changes the characteristics of the marine sediments. Since June 2019, she is Junior Professor in Sedimentology at the Faculty of Geosciences of the University of Bremen and member of the MARUM-Center for Marine Environmental Sciences.
She works with large data sets that include multibeam bathymetry, seismic data, sediment cores, measurements of oceanic currents and numerical modelling of the oceanic circulation. She is interested in implementing new methods that permit to better quantify sedimentary processes and to identify the factors that control them.
