TRANSFORMING DATA INTO VALUE WITH DATA SCIENCE
As a result of digitalization, vast amounts of heterogeneous data are produced across all scientific fields that can no longer be handled with
manual or traditional analysis methods. Data science opens up new possibilities to extract information and knowledge even from complex data sets,
thus increasing data usability. Data science is an inherently interdisciplinary field, in which methodological knowledge from computer science,
mathematics, and statistics is used in the context of other domains such as natural sciences, sociology, digital humanities, engineering, health,
or life sciences. Through the application of cutting-edge data science methods such as statistical techniques or artificial intelligence (e.g. machine learning),
data can be processed, analyzed, visualized, and interpreted in an unprecedented quality. Hence, data science is the key to unlocking the data’s potential and
transforming it into value.
STRENGTHENING DATA SCIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BREMEN
The DSC promotes data-driven science at the University of Bremen and unites the university's data science expertise in an interdisciplinary network.
The DSC supports core research into emerging technologies such as machine learning or deep learning at the interface of mathematics,
statistics, and computer sciences, as well as the transfer of these methods into applications in various research domains. The DSC brings
together scientists from all faculties of the University of Bremen to jointly develop innovative research questions and initiate cross-disciplinary
scientific collaboration in the context of data science.
