SHORT PROFILE
Sarah Büker completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biosciences at the University of Osnabrück in 2019. Due to her strong interest in interdisciplinary work, she then completed a Master’s degree in Marine Environmental Sciences at the Carl-von-Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (2023). During her master’s degree, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Oldenburg. From 2019 to 2023, she was involved in experimental saltwater and freshwater aquaculture and worked in the sheltering and breeding of endangered rice fishes (
Oryzias spp.). During her studies, she gained teaching experience in several tutorials in which molecular biological methods such as DNA extractions and metabarcoding were taught.
In her Master’s thesis, Sarah Büker focused on and specialized in the extraction and analysis of environmental DNA (eDNA). She not only successfully developed a new laboratory protocol for the extraction of eDNA from inhibitor-rich waters, but also further developed the preparation and analysis of NGS data sets.
As a data scientist in the BMBF-funded DataNord project at the DSC, Sarah Büker will support researchers at all levels of data management and analysis and will also develop interdisciplinary and domain-specific learning modules in the field of marine and environmental sciences. Building on her experience in metabarcoding, she will also support researchers in the field of health sciences.
