SHORT PROFILE
Iris Kirchner-Freis studied law at the University of Marburg, the University of Freiburg/Breisgau and the Saarland University, where she also got a PhD in law. She is an attorney-at-law (Rechtsanwältin) and admitted to the bar since 2001. Iris Kirchner-Freis is a certified lawyer (Fachanwältin) in copyright and media law as well as a certified lawyer (Fachanwältin) in intellectual property law. Since 2005 she is practicing in her own law firm specialized in copyright and media law, IT law and intellectual property law, only.
Since 2014 she is a professor of German and European IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law (Honorarprofessorin) at the Faculty 3: Mathematics and Computer Sciences at the University of Bremen. Iris Kirchner-Freis is the director of the Institute for IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law (MLS LEGAL), a research institute of the Hugo Grotius Society – non-profit society for the advancement of legal sciences. She is active in teaching, research and transfer projects related to data science and advises on relevant legal issues in international, European and national law, including AI regulation, data protection law, copyright, license law, competition law, patent law and trademark law.
