SHORT PROFILE
Annelies Blom studied Social Sciences (B.A.) at University College Utrecht, European Politics and Society (M.Phil.) at Oxford University, and obtained a Ph.D. from Essex University. After several positions inside and outside of academia, she became an Assistant Professor of Methods of Empirical Social Research at the University of Mannheim, where she also headed and researched the German Internet Panel (GIP) until 2022. 2017 she became Professor of Political Science, Data Science at the University of Mannheim. In 2022, Annelies Blom became Professor of Sociology, Quantitative Methods of Empirical Social Research at the University of Bremen and head of the methodological research unit at SOCIUM – Research Center for Inequality and Social Policy. In addition, she has been an Honorary Professor at the Digital Social Science Core Facility (DIGSSCORE) of the University of Bergen since 2023. The expertise hub Social Data Science of her research group aims to interconnect innovative social scientific methodological perspectives in Bremen and internationally.
