BACKGROUND

In our digital age, a smart approach to managing research data can make a difference. Humanities scholars working with qualitative data face unique challenges when it comes to organizing their work and sharing it effectively. This workshop is designed to equip you with practical insights and simple strategies that will help you keep your projects organized, enhance your academic profile, and collaborate more smoothly with peers.

WORKSHOP GOAL

During this hands-on session, participants will develop a solid foundation in research data management tailored to qualitative projects. By exploring practical data organization techniques, they will acquire a toolkit they can immediately apply to streamline their research workflow and keep their data orderly and accessible. In addition, the session will provide guidance on establishing a unique scholarly identifier (ORCID) to further enhance their research profile.

WORKSHOP CONTENT

  • Introduction & Overview: Brief introduction to the Open Science Initiative and the FAIR principles from the perspective of qualitative research.
  • Fundamentals of Research Data Management for qualitative data (RDM).
  • Data Organization Techniques: Naming conventions, file structuring, and data management plan (DMP).
  • ORCID Creation: A guided, hands-on exercise to help you set up your own ORCID ID, ensuring you have a unique identifier for your scholarly work.

TARGET AUDIENCE & PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

This training is designed for This workshop is designed for university researchers in the humanities working with qualitative data. It is beginner-friendly, though prior experience with qualitative research projects will be an advantage. Although it has a focus on humanities data, researchers working with qualitative data in other disciplines can also participate.

The event is open to all researchers from the University of Bremen and other institutions of the U Bremen Research Alliance.
