BACKGROUND
In the era of big data, biological research is increasingly dependent on computational tools to analyse and interpret sequencing data. This workshop provides an
introduction to the Galaxy Project , an open-source platform designed to make bioinformatics accessible for everyone, reproducible, and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
Designed for
biologists with little to no programming experience, this hands-on session will guide you through key concepts in sequence data analysis, visualizations and collaborative work – all within Galaxy’s user-friendly interface.
Whether you’re working with eDNA, SNPs, or metagenomics, this workshop will help you streamline your workflow, improve research reproducibility, and make the most of your data.
Join us and discover how Galaxy can
simplify your bioinformatics journey!
WORKSHOP GOAL
This workshop is designed for biologists and life scientists who want to analyse sequence data using the Galaxy – without needing programming expertise. Participants will learn how to perform key bioinformatics tasks.
By the end, attendees will be able to apply FAIR and reproducible bioinformatics workflows to their own research.
WORKSHOP CONTENT
- Introduction to Galaxy
- Galaxy Training Network
- Sequence data analysis
- Visualizations in Galaxy
TARGET AUDIENCE & PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
This beginner workshop is designed for anyone interested in accessible data science and the Galaxy platform. While a basic understanding of genomics is needed, no programming knowledge is required. The session will introduce participants to Galaxy’s user-friendly interface and its capabilities, making data science and genomic analysis more accessible to a wider audience.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Please bring your own notebook
- Connection to the Wifi (e.g. via eduroam: https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/zfn/wifi/overview-wifi).
- Account at usegalaxy.eu (important: .eu, as we will use the European Galaxy server).
- Everybody who wants (or needs) some coffee: please bring your own mug! ’
