BACKGROUND

Ever wanted to explore the universe of data without getting lost in black holes of complexity? Well, today, you’re in the right place!

This workshop is your introduction to the Galaxy Project , an open-source, cost free platform designed to make data science accessible, reproducible and FAIR – (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reuseable).

Whether you’re a scientist, researcher, or a student curious about data, we’ll be diving into how Galaxy helps you analyze, visualize, and share data – without needing to be a coding expert. Think of it as mission control for your data science journey! So, buckle up, get ready to explore, and let’s launch into the world of FAIR data and Galaxy!

WORKSHOP GOAL

This workshop aims to introduce participants to the Galaxy Project as a powerful, open-source platform for data science and FAIR data management. Attendees will learn how to process, analyze, and share data in a reproducible and accessible way – without requiring advanced programming skills.

By the end, participants will have hands-on experience using Galaxy to streamline workflows and enhance research transparency.

WORKSHOP CONTENT

  • Introduction to Galaxy
  • Galaxy Training Network
  • What to know before starting your data analysis
  • Your first data analysis in Galaxy, using quantitative data
  • Famous iris dataset

TARGET AUDIENCE & PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

This workshop is designed for anyone interested in accessible data science and the Galaxy platform. It is a beginner’s session, requiring no prior knowledge. Whether you are new to data science or looking for an easy-to-use tool for analysis, this workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to Galaxy and its capabilities.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Please bring your own notebook
  • Connection to the Wifi (e.g. via eduroam: https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/zfn/wifi/overview-wifi).
  • Account at usegalaxy.eu (important: .eu, as we will use the European Galaxy server).
  • Everybody who wants (or needs) some coffee: please bring your own mug!
