WHAT’S THIS SESSION ABOUT?

Open Access stands for the free and open accessibility of scientific publications. The amount of Open Access publications worldwide is steadily increasing. Progressively, research funders like the DFG, BMBF or EU demand that publications from funded projects appear Open Access (OA mandates). Many studies also show that Open Access publications receive more visibility and attention and are cited more often than conventional publications. As such, it makes sense for researchers to be aware of the various options available to them regardless of which stage of their career they currently find themselves in.

Open Access comes in a selection of different flavours: Gold, Green, Diamond and Hybrid to name but a few. Which suits your taste best? This session provides an overview of the different types of Open Access. Through specific examples, it details the support options available at the University of Bremen and how to utilise them. The following questions are answered: What type of Open Access might suit your specific needs? How to access the Open Access publication fund of the Bremen State and University Library? What technical and legal regulations have to be observed?
